Layout #9 - Faux Envelope

25 May 2008 14 Comments

This layout template is based on a simple envelope design. It breaks up the space in a nicely assymetrical way, and allows you to place the focal image wherever you choose.

Here are two ATC templates that orient the faux envelope flaps in different directions. I’ve used a bottle cap with an image in it for the focal point of one, and a round stamped tag for the other. Your eye will always be drawn to where the two lines of the flap intersect—in this case, right underneath the round elements. Be sure to put something interesting there.

For this card, I switched things up a little, and used what would normally be a focal image as the right side of the envelope, layering the flap of text over it. Your eye will still be drawn to the round element, but it’s just an accent here. You should end up looking at the girl’s face, which is conveniently placed directly above the round element. That round spot might be a nice place to put an appropriate word or phrase.

This square card can be oriented either way. Here it is flipped on its side:

Oh, and just in case you need it, here’s the rectangular card template, oriented the opposite way:

This is perfect for a mosaic ATC swap I’m working on. I wanted to do something abstract, but with depth, and have been suffering from such a creative block. Browsing your site is the best remedy to turn those boulders into pebbles. Thanks for all your hard work and generosity.

I love this! I once made enveopes out of pretty pictures in magazines, just to recycle them in a different way (it was a long process to trace an opened envelop, cut it out, then fld it and tape it together!) And I LOVE your site! I check it almost every day to see if there’s something new I can make! (I am a copycat chef and a copy cat artist… Not to be confused with copyright enfringement! I just need ideas from somewhere else!) Anyway, thank you for sharing your site and your beautiful crafts!!!

What a neat design! One I’ve never seen before, and versatile! It can be used for cards OR ATC’s! I love the fact that it is envelope style. Very different. I’m already seeing a lot of ideas for this one. Thanks again Lisa!

This is a really visually interesting layout, probably my favorite of the bunch. It’s even moreso, because it can be used to great effect on square layouts.

Thanks for this. An interesting way to make a focal point really pop right off the page.
