A Day at the Museum

Livia and I plan to hit the Kimbell Art Museum this week, for The Impressionists. This exhibit showcases 92 paintings from an array of Impressionist masters. We’re very lucky to have this museum in our backyards, because the Kimbell gets one or two intense, focused exhibits each year—often, exhibits that don’t appear in any other American city. Last year, Liv and I went to The Mirror and the Mask at the Kimbell, and spent the day wandering through about 100 portraits. I saw my first Frida Kahlo in person, a portrait by Van Gogh with a brush hair forever captured in the paint, and a group of portraits by Modigliani that made me start drawing again.

In October, I have tickets to the King Tut exhibt at the Dallas Museum of Art. I’m excited to see this, because I remember having seen the big King Tut tour that came through the US 26 years ago, and being profoundly affected by a couple of the pieces. I still remember being blown away by the four large gold statues of the goddess Selket, arms extended towards each other as if circling the pharoh to protect him.

Yes, I’m a museum junkie. I get a lot of inspiration from my days out amongst the artwork—so naturally, this week’s poll is about museums.
