Vaguely creepy? Dark? Why yes they are! But now that the goth movement has taken them as their personal mascots (some complete with bows on their heads), they have lost their shock value. For the longest time we didn’t want to deal with the other side of our personalities, the hidden, unspoken. Now we can as these images attest to.

@Wendy: Hmm, I think of dark artwork in a much larger context. There have always been artists willing to explore uncomfortable subjects. The bows on the heads of Gothic Lolitas don’t lessen that work, or make it less shocking—in fact, they have little to do with it.
I’m about the least Gothic girl you’ll ever meet. That doesn’t stop me from creating the occasional piece that deals with death or pain. That’s not goth—that’s just human.
