The Artful Storybook

21 August 2008 6 Comments
The always fabulous Barbe Saint John turned me on to The Artful Storybook, which arrived this week via Amazon.com. It’s a mixed-media approach to creating storybooks—so, rather than making an altered book with a general theme and random artwork, you use your artwork to tell and illustrate a story from beginning to end. Strangely enough, I started a book just like this at the beginning of the month, so this book arrived at a good time.

The Artful Storybook is filled with altered book eye candy from folks like Jane Wynn, Linda and Opie O’Brien, and Catherine Moore, whose cover-worthy Marie Antoinette storybook is just too clever.

If you’re ready to take your altered books in this direction, or if you just want a little inspiration from some very experienced artists, this one’s a must have. Go buy a copy at Amazon, while the price is still discounted!

I love that idea! I think I will have to get that one. It would be a perfect way for my students to do altered books.

I’m so glad you liked it!!! I am going to make one about the UK trip, and will gather stuff when I’m there. I can’t WAIT to see what you create!

Thanks for this recommendation. I’ve visited your site a number of times for inspiration and how-tos. You’re so generous to share your experiences in creating art, offering free artwork and putting/maintaining it on your website. I sincerely appreciate it all.

I love writing and telling the story, but I hadn’t heard about this book yet - thanks for telling us about it Lisa! It sounds just like something I would love doing!
